Big things start small – the dawn of a global renaissance in nuclear energy: How Canada is spearheading Small Modular Reactors through the Darlington New Nuclear Project .
Global electricity demand is set to grow nearly 50% by 2050, driven by population need, economic growth, energy transition and the technology sector. Once a symbol of fear, nuclear energy is now seen as a solution to the world’s growing energy needs, climate crisis and energy security concerns. Recent technological developments are enabling safer, cheaper and faster development of nuclear resources –particularly Small Modular Reactors through their design features and footprint.
With Darlington New Nuclear Project, Canada is leading the charge on New Nuclear development globally. Building on lessons learned from past nuclear programs, DNNP is innovative on multiple fronts: its Integrated Project Delivery Model, the use Steel-Concrete technology, modularisation principles baked into its design, and a fleet strategy from its inception.
Join Thomas Pailloux (Centrale) , Project Director at Aecon and Olivier Cauvin (Centrale Supelec) , Director at Ontario Power Generation for this exciting talk through the Canadian and Ontario energy context, the perspective on nuclear energy and the growth of Small Modular Reactors in Canada and globally. A world of opportunities awaits!
