During the week of 24-28 July the Steyning Downland Scheme will be carrying out a careful excavation of the Targets area, at the far end of the Rifle Range (What3Words: ///stores.underline.viewing). The aim is to learn more about how the Rifle Range has been used over the years.
Everyone is welcome to visit to see what we're up to! The dig will be led by SDS volunteer Justin Russell, a qualified archaeologist with specialist knowledge of rifle ranges.
Justin and his team will be available from 10am to 2pm, to answer your questions and to demonstrate the items they find.
This event is FREE but donations are welcome. Pre-booking is advised, so we can notify you of any last-minute changes.
Become a Friend : While ticket sales help to cover our costs, we're dependent on regular donations from our supporters to keep our conservation work going. Please consider becoming a Friend. Thank you!
We create inspiring opportunities for people through volunteering, engaging events and inclusive access, so improving the Steyning Downland for wildlife and for present and future generations to enjoy.
