THIS EVENT IS CANCELLED

Outdoor fun and adventure for toddlers to 5 years old with their parents or guardians into spring 2020!

Where are the sessions held?

All sessions will beheld at the Steyning Downland Scheme Wild Play Area. To reach us, from Steyning High Street, turn up Mouse Lane and after about 100 meters, look for a track on the left, just past Mouse Cottage. Walk up this track and you will see our Gateway building on your left, where we will be meeting. If you arrive late, continue up the track for about a third of a mile. You'll see the Wild Play Area on your right.

Parking at Mouse Lane is extremely limited so we ask that parents/guardians park in Steyning town centre and walk from there.

Who will be running the sessions?

Steyning Saplings is being run in partnership with Jackie Bruce, who is a fully qualified and insured Forest Schools Leader and has been working in similar environments for over 25 years. A copy of her Level 3 Forest Schools certificate, First Aid certificate, insurance documentation and DBS can be viewed upon request. A printed copy of all procedures and Risk Assessments will also be kept on site for those wishing to browse this information.

Who is responsible for the children?

As a parent, grandparent or guardian you will be responsible for your own child throughout the session, and must always know exactly where your child is and what they’re getting up to. We strongly encourage parents/guardians to get involved with their child’s activities to help you both develop together and enjoy your time together! If anyone other than the person specified on the health form is accompanying your child, please ensure you let us know before the start of the session.

What to wear on the day?

The sessions are run in a natural environment so we ask that all parents/guardians ensure that their child is appropriately dressed for every eventuality. Please ensure your child wears long trousers and sturdy boots/shoes (even in hot weather) to minimize the risk from scraps, scratches, inspect bites, stings etc. Parents/guardians may also wish to bring sun cream and/or insect repellent.

What should I bring with me?

Playing outdoors is hard work! We ask parents/guardians to bring a healthy snack for themselves and their child, as well as plenty of water.

What toilet facilities will be available?

There are no toilet facilities on site. Please do try to avoid wetwipes because we don’t have the facilities to dispose of these. Similarly any nappy waste must be taken home at the end of the session.

What if I am still breastfeeding?

We warmly welcome mothers who are still nursing their child/children. We just ask that they keep an eye on any other child they may have with them whilst doing so, to ensure that everyone is kept safe.

Can I bring anyone else with me?

We welcome anyone who wishes to accompany you eg. other parents/spouses/partners, grandparents, aunties/uncles etc. Please introduce them to Jackie at the start of the session.

We look forward to seeing you there!

While ticket sales help to cover our costs to some extent, actually what makes a big difference are small, regular donations from supporters such as you. Please consider becoming a Friend. With your support, we can continue to conserve this great piece of Downland and make it available for people to enjoy. Thank you!
