Perseid Meteor Shower

August 13, 2015
Creation Museum
Petersburg, KY
Registration Closed

On the morning of Thursday, August 13, 2015 the Perseid meteor shower should be at peak conditions.  During this time one often can see 60 meteors per hour in a dark, clear location.  While the Creation Museum's Johnson Observatory is not located at a totally dark site, we ought to see many Perseid meteors, weather permitting.  You can join Dr. Danny Faulkner, the Answers in Genesis astronomer, to watch the shower.  We will meet at the Creation Museum at 1:00 AM and the viewing will conclude by 5:30 AM.

The annual Perseid meteor shower is one of the best meteor showers of the year.  Additionally being during the summer in the Northern Hemisphere, the weather is warm, and many students are not in school. Some years a bright moon interferes with seeing the fainter meteors, but not this year, because the moon will be a thin waning crescent. Because the shower radiant does not rise until after midnight, it is best to watch early in the morning rather than in the evening.

What to bring:  Warm clothing, lawn chair(s), sleeping bag and ground cloth, pillow, snacks, water.

Cancellation: In the case of inclement weather, we will cancel by 5:00 PM on August 12, 2014. We will send cancellation notices via e-mail.
